ARTIST STATEMENT

I am a multi-disciplinary artist creating conceptual works within sculpture, painting, and installation that imagine fictional event horizons caused by economic, social, and ecologic traumas. My process starts by investigating individuals in rural and suburban American subcultures—identifying the psychological world-building mechanisms through which they accumulate objects and create built environments. I was born, raised, and live in the foothills of North Carolina where these subcultures exist. Being rooted in this land, I am able to physically investigate the histories it holds and gain intimate knowledge on the real-life impact of macro changes on these various groups. By studying the junctures between personal expression, consumerism, ritual traditions, and physical environments, I explore the ramifications of these subcultures’ survival and their effects on our collective societal structures.
